On Wednesday, March 25th, 2020, the Educational Association of University Centers and the US Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration,will host a webinar providing an overview of EDA Economic Development Integrator office, and the REDS/FIRE assistance at an upcoming webinar, with emphasis on the role that University Centers can play as conveners/supporters of regional collaboration across varied funders and projects for economic development.

Economic Development Integration at EDA:  In addition to its funding programs, EDA’s capacity to support local and regional economic development strategies and projects is enhanced by its Economic Development Integration (EDI) practice. Doug Lynott and Nancy Gilbert will provide an overview of the EDI practice, and how this team seeks to partner with University Centers and other economic development organizations to help communities better access and leverage ALL of the federal government’s various economic development resources that can best support their local priorities and objectives.

Through EDI, EDA works in partnership with other federal agencies to implement policies and procedures that:

• Increase Access to critical, relevant Federal program resources;
• Enhance Collaboration among Federal agencies and local and regional partners and stakeholders; and
• Reduce Administrative Burdens inherent to applying for and administering Federal program funds.

EDA’s Regional Economic Diversification Summit (REDS) process was established at the beginning of FY18, and is intended to help EDA meet these objectives in partnership with other federal agencies and in support of local/regional economic and community development priorities. Of the different economic/community development themes and issues that have been addressed at various Summits, Workforce Development is commonly included.
